South Hanover Township Volunteer Fire Company

A 10-Minute Classroom Presentation

This presentation is for kindergarten through 5th grade. It follows the 2026 Fire Prevention Week theme, safe charging, and then covers what every child should know: what a smoke alarm sounds like, how to get out, and how to call 911.

Our firefighters use it on school visits. Teachers and parents are welcome to use it too. Each slide has speaker notes underneath, with a tip for younger and older grades.

Thumbs Up or Thumbs Down?

  • I charge my tablet under my pillow. Hard, flat spot
  • My toy feels hot, so I tell a grown-up. Good spotting
  • The smoke alarm beeps, so I hide. Get out
  • I go to our meeting place and stay there. Stay out

Your Mission Tonight

  1. Show a grown-up your safe charging spot.
  2. Ask a grown-up to test your smoke alarm.
  3. Pick your family meeting place.

Thank you! What questions do you have?

For Presenters

The slides are timed to finish in just under 10 minutes. The clock under the slides starts when you leave the first slide. It shows the time you have used and the time you should be at when the current slide ends.

  • Next: right arrow, space bar, Page Down, or click the right side of the slide.
  • Back: left arrow, Page Up, or click the left side of the slide.
  • Full screen: press F. Press Esc to leave.
  • A wireless presentation clicker works without any setup.

Speaker notes stay on this page and do not appear in full screen. Choose Show all slides to read or print every slide with its notes.

To hold the notes in your hand instead of printing them, open southhanoverfire.org/fire-prevention.php?presenter on your phone. It shows the notes in large type with the pace clock and what comes next. The phone and the projected slides are not linked, so press Next on the phone each time you advance the slides. Swiping left or right works too.
